About

Begin with transportation upstream. Relax and unwind as you take a leisurely float down river to Camp Hi. This stretch has an average depth of four to five feet, with slow 1 mile/hour current. This marsh and woodland river has unspoiled beauty and wildlife. Our "Riffle" in the "narrows" is easy Class 1, a nice change of pace before the trip ends at Camp Hi.

Highlights

This trip is the ideal way to experience the character of the Upper Cuyahoga River that makes it one of Ohio's Scenic Rivers. The first 4 - 5 miles alternate between marsh and woods. Bald Eagles nest nearby, so you will most likely spot one or two. And of course at least one Great Blue Herron will lead you down the river. Other birds to look for are the Belted Kingfisher, and Prothonotary Warbler. In the Spring and early Summer you can expect to see active beavers, muskrats, and otters. When you begin to see signs of civilization, you will know that you are about 2 miles (1 hour) from the take out. The river also begins to change character; the channel becomes more narrow and the current picks up. After you pass under the Winchell Road bridge (the only bridge on your trip), you encounter Hiram Rapids, (class 1) and are just 20 minutes from the take out. Take out is on river left where you see the large Camp Hi sign.
