About

Kayak A is the first session of the Kayak ABC beginner series designed for those who have already taken the Learn to Kayak course or have some prior experience. The course follows the American Canoe Association kayak curriculum. During the Kayak A course, an instructor will review kayak equipment, including touring or sea kayaks, paddles and safety equipment. Basic paddling strokes with proper body and kayak blade positioning will also be covered. The instructor will then move on to introduce more advanced maneuvering techniques focusing on the draw family of strokes. The ABC's of Kayaking is perfect for those that want to build stamina and skills for our longer tours or advanced trips elsewhere. Each Kayak ABC practice session begins in a protected embayment on the Hoboken side of the Hudson River with stunning views of Manhattan as the backdrop. The Instructor will lead participants out onto the river as appropriate for skills practice and river/weather conditions

Every class follows the American Canoe Association curriculum and industry standards for risk management. The “challenge by choice” model will be used to ensure comfort while allowing each person to participate at his or her own level and develop skills at his or her own speed. These classes are available every week throughout the season by request in order to provide flexible scheduling options. Please note: This class is designed for adults over 18. Teens 13- 17 may be able to join when accompanied by a parent. Advance approval is required.

We only offer small group or private lessons. You will not be in a crowd. You can expect individualized teaching and support from the instructor plus incredible views of the Manhattan Skyline.
