About

Hiking Guide Course The Hiking Guide Course (HGC) is our entry level course designed for guides who run trips on terrain up to Class IV. The HGC does not cover wilderness travel on terrain above Class IV, snow covered or glaciated environments. It's perfect for outdoor professionals who are camp counselors, college outdoor club leaders, nature guides, tour guides, interpretive guides, park rangers and/or anyone looking to get trained in the outdoor education industry as a day hiking guide.

The training includes, but is not limited to, client and pace management, stewardship and access issues, permit processes, special needs clients, guides pack construction and use, and physical conditioning.

Prerequisites:

CPR/AED certification
Wilderness First Aid certification
AHGA approved Wilderness/Land Navigation course
AHGA approved Wilderness Survival course
Leave No Trace awareness

Course length: 2 days/16 hours

Course cost: $250.00

Cancellation

Cancellation/reschedule: NO REFUNDS FOR AHGA COURSES. Cancellation MUST be done 14 days in advance for a reschedule opportunity. A $20 admin fee will apply to reschedule. Weather will be checked 10-12 hours pretrip, if 80% chance of rain or high daily temps below 40 degrees on the second day of the course, it will be rescheduled. In the event of a weather cancellation our office or your guide will contact you. Do NOT assume a trip/course is cancelled unless you hear from our office or your guide.

Refunds are NOT issued for
- no-shows
- clients showing up late and not able to participate
- clients showing up and choosing to not participate
- not showing up due to various issues like directions, vehicle/transportation issues, etc. If you have vehicle or direction troubles you can call the office to reschedule
- weather cancellations

We, Northeast Mountain Guiding, are NOT responsible for car rental fees, hotels fees, and/or any associated travel fees due to a cancellation. We recommend getting trip insurance when booking those accommodations in the event a cancellation for inclement weather comes up.
