About

This exciting journey offers a mix of tranquil cruising and mild challenges, making it perfect for both novice and intermediate paddlers.

• Location: Ramsey Road to Kiceniuk Road • Difficulty: 3/5 • Distance: 5 miles • Restrooms: Not available along the route

Starting Your Trip: There is no restroom at the put-in, so make any necessary preparations beforehand. The launch area features a small opening in the river's bank, though be cautious as it's steep and small.

The Trip: Embark on a captivating journey as you paddle downstream from Clinton to Sunnyside Park. The trip offers a mix of gentle waters and challenging sections, providing a well-rounded experience. You'll encounter interesting obstacles, including downed trees and tricky currents, which may require careful navigation. Keep an eye on water levels as they can affect the route's difficulty. As you progress, you'll encounter a scenic open pond, home to diverse wildlife. Following the pond, a major downed tree awaits your attention. While many trees are easily navigable, this one may requires skillful navigation. The trip then continues straightforwardly, often presenting forks in the river. Opt for the larger branch when in doubt, as most forks eventually reconnect.

The Portage: At the Hamden Road Dam, a portage becomes necessary. This should be taken on the right side of the river, ensuring safe footing on patches of rocks and dirt. A short walk of 50 to 100 feet leads to a small path down to the water's edge. Be vigilant for ticks and sharp vines in the high grass during the portage.

The Trip, Continued: As you continue downstream, you'll pass under several bridges and a set of railroad tracks. The river winds through residential neighborhoods, Camp Carr, and farmlands. The final stretch passes beautiful and scenic farmhouses, indicating proximity to the take-out point.

The Take-Out: Complete your adventure by reaching the take-out point at Kiceniuk Road Bridge. A small parking lot accommodates around eight cars, and restrooms are unavailable. The take-out is on the left bank, immediately past the Kiceniuk Road Bridge. Watch out for rocks close to the bank as you disembark. Your 5 mile journey offers a glimpse into the natural beauty of the watershed, hunterdon county, and your fellow adventurer making for an unforgettable kayaking experience.

Additional Comments and Tips: Assume everything you bring will get wet. Pack essentials, sunscreen, and water. Dress appropriately for the weather and consider a change of dry clothes. Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience by following these guidelines.
