About

Halibut Cove is a breathtaking corner of Alaska where mile-high snow-capped peaks thrust themselves out of the protected cove. This trip starts with a 30-minute scenic boat cruise on Kachemak Bay, arriving at our wilderness lodge outpost inside Kachemak Bay State Park. After instructions and “gearing up”, head out on the protected cove in search of sea otters, bald eagles, and other marine life. Paddle along sea cliff, sea caves, and then stretch your legs and do some beach combing on a pristine beach accessible only by boat. The journey continues as you hear the stories of the once bustling fishing village of Halibut Cove, turned ghost town, then revived into an eclectic community of a few dozen hardy fishermen, artists, and oyster farmers. In short, there’s no place on earth like Halibut Cove!

What to expect

Enjoy a scenic 30 minute boat ride across Kachemak Bay State Park to Halibut Cove where you will meet your guide and get geared up for the adventure. After a brief overview and safety talk, paddle away with your professional guide around Halibut Cove in search of Alaskan wildlife! After paddling we will take a break to eat lunch and beachcomb followed by more kayaking around the historic Halibut Cove. The trip ends with another 30 minute boat cruise across Kachemak bay to get you back in Homer in time for dinner!

Cancellation

Because of our short, 3-month season and small group size we must receive cancellation notice at least 30 days before your trip date. If notice is received more than 30 days prior to your trip, we will return your deposit, less a $100 processing fee. For cancellations within 30 days of the trip date, or in the event of a “no show” there is no refund. Our trips operate rain or shine. In the event of inclement winds and we are unable to go kayaking, a motorized boat tour of Halibut Cove will be offered instead. There is no discount in price if this is the case. This rare exception happens about 1 in 10 trips, so pray for good weather!
