About

This event is a discussion on the identification of avalanche terrain and snow-related hazards when recreating during the winter. It is ideal for snowshoers, cross-country skiers, winter hikers and folks who are not necessarily interested in adventuring in avalanche terrain, but wish to identify appropriate areas to recreate based on their skill set.

The Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation in collaboration with the Mat-Su Borough and almost 20 local businesses and nonprofits are gearing up for Winter Discovery Day on Saturday, March 7 from 11AM-4PM at Government Peak Recreation area.

Free to attend, community members can expect a spread of free gear demonstrations, activities, and giveaways. Fat biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoes, sleds, and even a sauna! The event hopes to highlight different recreation opportunities in our area. Locals will be able to connect with various organizations that offer local, community programming and services.
