Field Sketching 101 on May 23
Enhance your outdoor adventures ✍🏻🎨
About
About the Class:
Learn how to bring creativity outdoors with Field Sketching 101, a guided workshop led by Alaska artist Kate Powers of Artscape Workshops. We’ll explore the fundamentals of field sketching using water-soluble tools to capture the stunning scenery of Eklutna Lake. After reviewing our sketching materials and assembling our own personal sketch kits—watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, and artist markers—we’ll take a short walk down to the beach and practice capturing what we see with expressive, approachable techniques.
This workshop is perfect for those looking to enhance their time in nature, whether hiking, backpacking, boating, or simply slowing down to observe.
Total workshop time is approximately 2.5 hours. This course is best suited for adult learners and teenagers.
What We Will Make:
Each participant will create a small collection of nature-inspired sketches using mixed media on watercolor paper. All materials are included for this experience.
Optional: Creative Social Lunch
After class, you’re invited to stick around for a relaxed creative social lunch at the pavilion from 12:30PM–2:00PM. Bring your own lunch and continue sketching, sharing ideas, or just enjoying the view with fellow participants.
