About
Day 1 (August 15): Meet in Denali State Park at the Byers Lake boat rental for a Paddle + Hike adventure.
🥾 Difficulty: Moderate for most paddlers 🥾 Paddling duration: About 3 hours 🥾 Hiking duration: About 1 hour
What to expect:
- We will paddle canoes around scenic Byers Lake. Loons and trumpeter swans are often present on the peaceful water. We might also see anglers and a few other paddlers. Weather permitting, we’ll have a grand view of Denali to the west.
- After boating, we’ll eat lunch and then walk a short way to a unique historic cabin to learn about the pioneers who built it.
- Participants will have free time the rest of the afternoon and evening to explore the lake, or the nearby Veterans Memorial, or to just relax. Add an optional casual fireside chat with Revel guides in the evening.
- Participants can camp that night at Byers Lake, Kesugi Ken Campground, or stay at another location of their choice (participants must arrange and pay for their own lodging).
Day 2 (August 16): Hike
🥾 Difficulty: Moderate for most hikers 🥾 Distance: Approximately 7 miles 🥾 Elevation gain: About 1,100 feet
Trip Description:
- We’ll meet at the Curry Ridge trailhead at Kesugi Ken Campground just a few miles south of Byers Lake to hike gradually up above tree line for amazing views of Denali and the Alaska Range (weather permitting).
We’ll stay together as a group during all activities. We will stop to identify plants, photograph the views, and take water/snack breaks as needed.
