🥾 Difficulty: Moderate to strenuous for most hikers 🥾 Distance: Approximately 7 miles 🥾 Elevation gain: Less than 500 feet

Trip Description:

  • This route follows a historic railroad bed along the edge of the Matanuska River from Palmer to Moose Creek.
  • Terrain is a mostly level grade with several short sections of gravel slides to cross; much of it passes through mixed forest.

We’ll stay together as a group and hike at a leisurely pace. We will stop to identify plants, photograph the views, and take water/snack breaks as needed.

What to bring

  • Comfortable walking/hiking shoes
  • Comfortable attire (avoid cotton or denim, if possible)
  • Insect repellent
  • Small backpack
  • Additional layers (hat, gloves, jacket)
  • Rain gear - If you have it, carrying both rain pants and a rain jacket is recommended
  • Water (1-2 liters recommended)
  • Light snacks

For day trips and community classes, cancellations made: More than one week before trip departure, receive a full refund minus a 5% processing fee. Less than one week before trip departure, receive no refund.
