About
Each spring, the waters around Seward come alive as baitfish move into the surrounding coastline, drawing Alaskan halibut up from the deep. These powerful fish can be found anywhere from offshore depths to surprisingly shallow water as they feed, creating some of the most exciting fishing Alaska has to offer. Alaskan halibut are known for their strength and endurance. With pure muscle and no wasted energy, they put up a serious fight and test even experienced anglers. Our crew is there every step of the way—coaching, baiting gear, and helping you land your fish safely and efficiently. These trips are designed for anglers who want to focus on halibut, with rockfish opportunities available as limits allow. Many of our guests spend time fishing salmon on the Kenai River and choose this trip to round out their Alaska experience with premium white-meat fish. Because these trips are dedicated to halibut and rockfish, we can spend more time targeting larger fish and less time switching species. We adjust our strategy based on conditions and location, traveling east or west as needed to give you the best opportunity for success. If you’re looking for a focused, no-rush halibut experience with experienced local captains, our Halibut & Rockfish trips deliver a true day of Alaskan fishing.
Fishing License and NEW 2026 Halibut Stamp
- You must purchase a fishing license prior to your trip. Copy this link for your convenience. https://store.adfg.alaska.gov/
2026 Fuel Surcharge
Due to the continued rise in fuel prices and the increased cost of operating our charter vessels, Puffin Fishing Charters has implemented a fuel surcharge on trips.
We do our best to keep our pricing fair and transparent, but fuel is one of the largest costs in running safe, reliable trips out of Seward. This surcharge helps us continue providing the quality service, experienced crews, and well-equipped vessels our guests expect.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support.
NEW 2026 Halibut Stamp!
New Charter Halibut Stamp Requirement (effective 2026)

Charter vessel guides validate the stamp using Alaska’s electronic logbook (eLogbook) system.
