Experience the story of Palmer and the 1935 Matanuska Colony Project on a guided tour! Walk with one of our knowledgeable guides on an easy ½ mile loop around historic downtown and take in the story of how a little trading post on the Matanuska River became the farming capital of Alaska, growing vegetables of world record size. The tour covers the history of Palmer from the story of the Ahtna and Dena’ina Dene people to the post WWII agricultural boom. Tour covers a half mile easy loop, with frequent stops and places to sit. Terrain is flat, and mostly sidewalk or paved walking path. This tour is wheelchair accessible.
