About
Northwind Aviation & Destination Alaska Bear Viewing at Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park
Brooks Falls, in the heart of Katmai National Park, is one of Alaska’s premier bear-viewing locations July - September. The Brooks River hosts one of the state’s strongest Sockeye (Red) and Coho (Silver) salmon runs, drawing brown bears each summer as they prepare for winter.
Your trip begins with a scenic floatplane flight from Homer to either the shores of Naknek Lake or Brooks Lake, depending on weather conditions. After landing, your pilot will guide you to the Ranger Station for a brief, required safety orientation led by park rangers.
From there, you can explore the area on your own. Follow the boardwalks and trails through the bears’ natural habitat and observe them fishing, traveling, and interacting in one of Alaska’s most remarkable wild landscapes.
