About

About the Irish

  • The size and comfort are why most people choose to fish on the "Irish". While we like to think that most of our days on the water are under clear skies and calm seas the reality is that we are fishing the beautiful waters of Lower Cook Inlet and Kachemak Bay. We are at the mercy of the weather on any given day, and she can be very changeable. The ride on the "Irish" is very comfortable, dry and stable. The pounding in our short choppy seas are greatly reduced by its size.
  • **The "Irish" has comfortable inside seating for all 16-passengers at 4 separate dinettes* There are 8 bunks down below for you to enjoy a nap either on the way to the fishing grounds or after a full day of fresh air and fishing. We have a galley where there is coffee and hot water on all day and the galley stove is always hot if you want to warm up or cook something that you have brought along for the trip.
  • All equipment and bait are provided. We use custom rods and Penn 4/0 and 6/0 Senator reels. We have lightweight rods for smaller stature folks and kids and a heavier rod for everyone else. Our line is either 80 lb braided Dacron line or 80 lb thin line depending on the conditions.
  • We enjoy taking kids fishing. We have 2 boys ourselves and like to help kids experience a fishing trip to remember. There is always plenty of assistance for all customers on the "Irish", with our crew of 2 deckhands and Captain. They are there to bait your lines up ready for action, assist in reeling up a stubborn fish and landing the ones that you came fishing for.
  • The aft deck is approx. 250 sq ft with full walk around deck on both sides of the house (no steps) for easy access to the bow and additional fishing areas. Our stainless-steel railings stand 36 inches high above the deck for your comfort and safety. There is seating on the back deck just outside the door of the cabin on both sides as well as around the fish box. There is also seating up on the bow of the boat for your enjoyment on the way to or from the fishing grounds. There is easy outside access to a full-size standup head for your convenience.

TRIPS THAT INCLUDE HALIBUT ONLY

Recreational Quota Entity Halibut Stamp

New Starting 2025

As a fishery, the charter sector in the State of Alaska has chosen to work with the Recreational Quota Entity (RQE), a federally authorized body, to purchase a larger piece of the pie of Individual Fishing Quota (IFQ). This means that we are required to pay into the RQE $20/per person/per day with the plan to eventually purchase 12.5% of available halibut quota pool over a 10(ish) year period.

HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU: The purpose of this is to eventually have more flexible regulations for charter anglers and continue down a path of sustainable fishing so that we can keep doing this year after year.
