Orca Island Yurts • Half Day King Salmon and Rockfish Charter
Starting at $285 per person | We offer these charters at 7am and 1pm!
About
Experience king salmon fishing in the calm, protected waters of Resurrection Bay, surrounded by towering alpine glaciers and rugged mountain views. On clear days, and when conditions allow, you may even see Bear Glacier in the distance. Step aboard the Avery H, a 28-foot closed-wheelhouse, open-cockpit sportfishing vessel, and fish with Captain Jud and his experienced crew.
Trips depart from the small boat harbor and pick you up at Orca Island Yurts around 7:20 a.m. (return ~12:00 p.m.) and 1:30 p.m. (return ~6:00 p.m.), run about five hours, and carry up to six passengers (four-person minimum early season). This trip is great for families and kids, with semi-light tackle that makes the experience fun and manageable for all ages.
Each day starts by reading the tides to choose the best program—trolling or mooching for kings, or fishing for rockfish while waiting on the prime king window. All bait and tackle are included, and our crew ensures an exciting, approachable experience for every angler.
As we work from the inner bay toward Pilot Rock (weather permitting), keep your camera ready for glacier views, wildlife, and the chance at a king salmon of a lifetime. Please purchase your Alaska Fishing License and King Salmon Stamp in advance.

What to bring
What to Wear: Layers are key — it can swing from calm sunshine to wind and rain in minutes. Bring a waterproof jacket, warm hat, and gloves and extra layers you can store inside the boat. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat help against both sun and glare off the water. Footwear matters too; non-slip, waterproof boots or shoes keep your feet warm and safe on deck.
