Midnight Sun Tour: An Evening with Yaks
All ages! • 1 - 1.25 hours • Hands-on educational yak experience, art, music, and charcuterie!
About
During your evening with yaks you will get to relax and take in nature while watching the yaks peacefully graze. If you are feeling inspired an art project will be provided. You will be able to meet, pet, feed, take photos and learn about what makes yaks special. You will be offered complimentary charcuterie and refreshments to enjoy while doing art if you choose. Or you might try your hand at a drop spindle. The art activity involves making a print of one of our yak's noses and then decorating it to be a souvenir you'll never forget. While, on the tour you'll learn where yaks originate and how they ended up in Alaska, what makes them perfect animals for farms in our environment, and what it takes to raise them here. For this experience, you will transport yourself to our farm in the Chena River Valley. Enjoy a scenic drive into the rural community of Two Rivers nestled near the Tanana State Forest and Chena Recreation Area. There may even be an appearance from the great Mammut, the dog the farm is named for!
When you arrive at our farm, you will be greeted by the farm owner and guide. Be prepared for about a 5-minute trail walk through the birch forest to an authentic Alaskan-made wall tent, similar to those used during the Gold Rush.
If the walk is something that may be difficult for you, please call to request accommodations.
