About
Located in the Tongass National Forest, the largest temperate rainforest in the world, we know your plans can change based on the weather. That's why we designed our Whale Watching Tour to include flexible glacier viewing.
This tour starts with our comfortable boat ride where you spend two hours in search of whales, and then drops you off at the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area for as much (or as little) time as you want! If it is rainy and you are ready to head back to town, the bus will swing around in fifteen minutes to take you back to your ship. If you decide to take a little more time and explore, our bus will be back every hour after that, giving you as much time as you want, and you don't have to decide until you get there. If you decide to take a spur of the moment hike to Nugget Falls, you don't have to worry about the bus leaving without you!
On this tour, you will take one of our comfortable tour buses from downtown Juneau on a 20-minute, narrated tour through Juneau and the Mendenhall Valley to Auke Bay. In Auke Bay you will board one of our comfortable boats and head out on a 2-hour whale watching experience. Upon returning to the harbor you will be escorted back to the bus for a quick trip inland to Mendenhall Glacier. You may take photos, walk the trails around Mendenhall Lake, and visit the informative visitor's center to learn more about the history and science behind the glacier. Be sure to keep an eye out for abundant wildlife such as black bears, bald eagles and mountain goats, as well as spawning salmon if the season is right!
