Alaska Coastal Brown bears visit Brooks Camp (also known as Brooks Falls) every summer for the salmon run. Alaska bear viewing in Katmai National Park provides some of the highest densities of foraging brown bear populations for public viewing on the planet. Brooks Camp provides excellent and accessible viewing opportunities, with bear-viewing platforms and wheelchair-friendly trails.

What to bring

☑ Lunch & snacks (Avoid bringing tuna, salmon, or any fish. Pack separately in a Ziploc/bag for easy food cache storage.) ☑ Water (Bring enough for the day—all bottles should be FULL at check-in as we have no water source.) ☑ Hands-free day pack (Must fit all equipment, clothing & lunch. No totes, duffels, grocery bags, coolers, etc.) ☑ Binoculars ☑ Camera (Extra batteries, memory cards, or film recommended.) ☑ Insect repellent ☑ Sunscreen ☑ Medications (Pack enough for two days in case of an overnight delay.) ☑ Trekking poles (If needed, collapsible models are preferable.)

What NOT to Bring 🚫 Bear Spray or Bear Flares 🚫 Firearms or Weapons of Any Kind

What to Wear (Layered clothing is best!) 🧥 Jacket (Fleece or packable puffy coat for warmth.) 🌧️ Lightweight rain gear (Jacket & pants.) 🧤 Gloves (Lightweight or synthetic glove liners.) 🧢 Hat and/or baseball cap 🥾 Water-repellent shoes/boots (Hiking boots are great. No sandals!) 👖 Long pants (No shorts!)
