Glacier Lake Hike
For all ages! • 5 hours • Incudes scenic boat ride!
About
The #1 hike in Kachemak Bay State Park is the Grewingk Glacier Trail.
We provide transport from Homer to the Glacier Spit Trailhead and then pick you up at the Saddle Trailhead to return you to Homer at the end of the hike. This is a self-guided experience! Your journey starts out with a scenic water taxi ride to the glacier spit, where you embark on a well established trail into the Alaskan wilderness. Stop along the way to ride the hand tram across the glacial river, keep your eye out for up close wildlife sightings, and enjoy a lunch break with panoramic views of the Grewingk Glacier Lake.
The highlight of the hike is reaching the shore at the base of the Grewingk Glacier Lake. The lake shore offers views of the icebergs that have calved off the face of the glacier and drifted to the foot of the lake. This vantage point also offers great views of the glacier itself further up the valley.
The hike is a comfortable half day trip, approximately 1–2 hours to the lake and 1 hour from the lake to the pickup point. Explore spur trails and the shoreline of the glacial lake.
The morning time slot starts at Glacier Spit Trailhead and ends at the Saddle Trail Head, and allows for 5 hours in the park, plus an hour of transport time.
The afternoon time slot drops off and picks up at the Saddle Trail for a shorter, out-and-back trip to the lake, and allows for four hours in the park in addition to the hour of boat travel.
