About
If you're looking for a custom trip, something that you can control the where, when, and how long during--we offer exclusive charters.
Our boat is perfectly set up for photography with a wide walk-around deck and large back deck. The 43' length provides ample stability while still putting you eye to eye with the wildlife. A custom tour allows you control over the itinerary, and the extra time to make sure you get "the shot."
Puffins, cormorants, and gulls are here aplenty. But, if you're looking for something rarer- like a black oystercatcher or Kittlitz's Murrelet--our captains know the way.
Small kids or large family groups, health concerns, whatever it is we can address all of your needs.
NOTE: Trip purchase does not include individual fishing license. You will need to purchase a fishing license prior to boarding the boat.
About Our Boat
The Steller Explorer is 43' long and certified and inspected annually by the United States Coast Guard. The Steller Explorer has a heated cabin, bathroom, life raft, and walk around decks for excellent viewing.
What to Bring
- IF YOU ARE FISHING, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST BRING A FISHING LICENSE. You can buy them online (website will be included in your confirmation email). If you don’t get them online, you can buy them at many places in Alaska including the “Fish House,” a sporting goods store near the harbor.
- Please bring your own water bottle filled with water - you will be able to refill on boat.
- Warm layers - while it is summertime, it is summertime in Alaska and most mornings are chilly. On nice days you’ll be shedding layers, on cooler days you’ll appreciate the layers.
- Rain Gear - our vessel is equipped with a spacious and comfortable interior. But who wants to be inside while a whale is breaching, a glacier is calving, or the fish are biting? Bring at least a good rain jacket with a hood. If you brought rain pants to Alaska this is a good time to break them out. Even if it doesn’t rain, if it’s windy you’ll be able to put those on.
- Warm hat, gloves - this is especially necessary in the late spring/early fall trips, but not a terrible idea in summer. Again, most days are mild, but when the boat is running it gets windy and if you want to be outside (and you likely will be) you’ll be all set if you have some gloves and a hat.
- Sunglasses - the midnight sun is even brighter mid-day so these are a must. If you have polarized glasses, certainly bring them, if our wildlife is cooperative you’ll be able to spot them in the water much better with polarized sunglasses.
- Camera/ phone for taking pictures - we cannot stress this enough. Make sure you have plenty of battery/replacements/charging packs. While we’re working on getting a better system for charging phones on board, you’ll be well covered if you bring what you need.
- A word about seasickness. Our boat is stable, very stable. It’s a heavy built boat designed specifically for the seas in the Pacific NW. However, the seas in Alaska can get rough. If you are prone to seasickness we recommend that you begin taking your seasickness medication 24-36 hours in advance. It gives you a chance to acclimate and a chance to get ahead of the potential for seasickness.
- We provide coffee, cocoa, tea, and water, but please feel free to bring your own drinks, snacks, etc. Alcoholic drinks are perfectly welcome, but use moderation, our captain and deckhand will cut off anyone that over indulges or becomes a problem.
What Not to Bring
- Drones. They are illegal in the Kenai Fjords National Park and they cannot be flown.
- Weapons
- Illegal drugs
- Bad attitude!
