Why Choose Cold Weather Kayaking in Alaska?

Kayaking in Alaska during winter is more than a tour—it’s a one-of-a-kind adventure. In the colder months, the waterways are calm and quiet, the mountains sparkle with fresh snow, and wildlife sightings are often rarer and more memorable. Paddling through icy waters lets you connect with Alaska’s winter wilderness from a perspective you can’t get on land. Our professional guides make cold-weather kayaking safe, comfortable, and unforgettable—whether you’re a first-time paddler or an experienced adventurer.

Safety & Comfort for Winter Kayaking

Cold-weather kayaking in Alaska requires the right gear and training for safety. We provide wetsuits that must be worn at all times while on the water. Winter water temperatures are extremely cold and can be dangerous if you fall in. The wetsuit helps retain body heat and delay hypothermia until we can get you warm and dry. For added safety, each guide carries a dedicated hypothermia kit, and our kayaks are extra wide and low to the water—making them stable and difficult to tip over. These precautions ensure you can relax and focus on the beauty of the experience.
